SeaScape™ Underwater Housings
The Maui Dive Institute's SeaScape™ architecture
(patent pending) combines the advantages of a custom-designed
underwater housing with an upgradable, adaptable, digital
control system.
Conventional U/W housings are designed and manufactured for
use with a specific camera or video system. Less than five
years ago, you could expect your purchase of a 35mm camera and
U/W housing to last you for many years. Today, the face of U/W
photography is changing dramatically.
Digital cameras and digital video (DV) continue to make
steady advances and can now match the quality of most
filmstrips and at ever lower prices. In fact, the digital
camera you just bought will be obsolete in 18 months and
you'll probably replace it with a newer model. Unfortunately,
your U/W housing will be obsolete right along with it!
Every few months, the digital camera manufacturers add a
couple new features, increase the number of megapixels, and
reposition many of the buttons on their cameras. These changes
virtually guarantee your old housing will not work properly
with any new camera on the market.
SeaScape Digital™ and SeaScape DV™ Underwater
Housings
Both the SeaScape Digital™ and the SeaScape DV™ help
to protect the investment you've made in your U/W photographic
equipment. The SeaScape Digital is designed for use
with virtually all digital still cameras, professional and
amateur, and is effortlessly upgraded when you add a new
camera to your collection. The SeaScape DV, like the SeaScape
Digital, is easily upgraded and is designed for use with all
current DV cameras. The primary difference between the two
being the shape of the housing and the communications
protocols used to 'talk' with the camera.
SeaScape™ Underwater Housing Advantages
The SeaScape architecture is:
- General - The SeaScape™ architecture works
with virtually every digital camera on the market. The U/W
housing does not use any mechanical couplings to the camera
and, therefore, is unaffected by changes to the shape and size
of the camera and the placement of the controls.
- Advanced - The unique SeaScape™ controller
runs on a Pocket PC™ handheld computer and can be
customized to invoke virtually any function of your digital
camera or DV. Even using two or more cameras on the same dive
trip is as simple as unplugging the first camera and plugging
in the second.
- Upgradable - When you purchase your next digital
camera, connect to the Maui Dive Institute web
site and download the driver for your new camera and
install it on your Pocket PC. That's all there is to it.
